volcanic eruption in Iceland

So, I'm back in the country.
In Iceland it has
yesterday geruppelt sound manner, the Eyjafjallajökull (pronounced Äija-fjattla-hugger-jo) is erupted after 187 years break. There is little danger to people, a few hundred residents were evacuated, flight routes umverlegt. The experience of a subglacial eruption and tsunami 1996 has made the authorities carefully, so the precautionary evacuation. At present such a risk but is considered very low, the eruption will apparently take place only above the ice sheet.

Another focus is on the way that further eruptions could be triggered in the vicinity.

"This was a rather small and peaceful eruption but we are concerned that it could trigger eruption of Katla volcano at the nearby, a vicious volcano that could cause both local and global damage," said Pall Einarsson, a Geophysicist at the University of Iceland's Institute of Earth Science, Associated Press news agency reported.

In the course of today, the fountains have given a (steam) plume, which is relatively small. All in all, it is a relatively quiet eruption, but still a fascinating spectacle of nature!

PS: I am experimenting with some new designs, so do not be surprised if the page looks something crooked.
